Power of the Town

Power of the Town

Just what is the effect of the mysterious power of this town that was revered as a sacred place?

The shift to the otherworld that takes place outside the town depends entirely upon a unique power. The power that absorbs and reflects what people hold in their hearts is established as being exclusive to the town of Silent Hill. - Hiroyuki Owaku

Silent Hill was once revered as a sacred place. That power has been completely twisted over the course of history.

Originally Silent Hill was a holy place to the area’s former inhabitants. It would seem that although the power of the town was not evil in nature, due to a number of factors including the spread of an epidemic and executions at the prison, the power that this place held was greatly distorted. Furthermore, due to the large-scale shift to the otherworld that occurred in the first game, the town has become a great catalyst for the manifestation of peoples’ unconscious minds. It appears to have become a place that beckons to those who hold darkness in their hearts.

Embody

The materialization of the darkness that sleeps in peoples’ hearts

In the town of Silent Hill, a power exists that gives discernible form to peoples’ innermost thoughts. As for the otherworld that appears in the series, the town is not merely showing the characters their nightmares, but actually manifesting elements of their unconscious minds.

Calling

Those who have guilt are summoned

Due to the appearance of the otherworld on a massive scale in the first game, the town has come to be a place that calls those who hold a profound darkness in their hearts. It seems that people with afflicted minds are easily drawn to the otherworld.

Link

Transcending time, minds are connected

It would seem that in the otherworld, time and physical limitations are transcended and peoples’ thoughts are communicated. In accordance with this are the enigmatic phone conversation and Stanley’s letters in the third game, as well the director’s letters, among other things, in the second game.

The darkness of Silent Hill transcends the boundaries of the town?

In the third game, the otherworld appears even in the shopping mall and subway, outside of the town called Silent Hill. It is possible that this is due to Claudia’s abilities. However, if one imagines that the human mind is where the otherworld dwells and holds power, then perhaps the shift to the otherside could occur regardless of the location.

Original Residents

So give or take, most fans have come to the conclusion that the town of Silent Hill ( is located in the state of Maine. Now I'm doing research about what Native American tribes lived/live in the state. I am curious as to what had powered the land, how it became special, when it was taken, what were the ceremonies? Definitely need the Native American perspective of Silent Hill. Of what it was and what it came to be and how.

So based on the information of this site : http://www.native-languages.org/maine.htm

Original inhabitants of the area that is (now) Maine included:
The Maliseet , The Passamaquoddy, The Abenaki, and The Penobscot.

Other Indian tribes who migrated into Ohio after Europeans arrived included:
*The Micmac tribe

The traditional Micmac territory is north and east of Maine, in what is now Canada. In the 1700's, the Micmac, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, Abenaki, and Penobscot people joined together into an alliance known as the Wabanaki Confederacy, and after that, some Micmac people settled in Maine as well. Their descendants still live in Maine today.

Lost Memories

The name comes from the legend
of the people whose land was
stolen from them.

They called this place "The Place
of the Silent Spirits." By "Spirits,"
they meant not only their dead
relatives, but also the spirits that
they believed inhabited the trees,
rocks and water around them.

According to legend, this was
where the holiest ceremonies
took place.

But it was not the ancestors of
those who now live in this town
that first stole the land from these
people. There were others who
came before.

In those days, this town went by
another name. But that name is
now hopelessly lost in the veils
of times.

All we know is that there was
another name, and that for some
reason the town was once
abandoned by its residents.

-Inside of the liner notes for the Japanese release of Silent Hill 4: The Room's soundtrack, an address is given for the Heaven's Night club that would have placed it in Maine.

-Further information can be found in Silent Hill 3; After Harry Mason left Silent Hill, he and Heather Mason moved to Portland, also sharing its name with Portland, Maine.

-Hiroyuki Owaku's (scenario writer of the first games in the series) Double Under Dusk, Silent Hill is placed in Maine.

-The Book of Lost Memories' timeline notes "Maine becomes a state."

-In the trailer of Silent Hill 8, a bus is seen with a Maine license plate.

-Silent Hill 2 features a road sign on Nathan's Avenue that says "Historic Route 26" A real life 26 travels through the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

-One of the screen shots of Silent Hill 8 displays a highway sign with "SILENT HILL" above the Interstate 95 symbol, which travels from Florida to Maine.

Lisa Garland and Berkano

Lisa Garland from Sient Hill 1.

I would like to point(well my friend, Adam pointed it out first) out her earring, the cyan/teal one, it is almost shaped like the Futhark rune Berkano.

BerkanoBerkano: (B: Berchta, the birch-goddess.) Birth, general fertility, both mental and physical and personal growth, liberation. Regenerative power and light of spring, renewal, promise of new beginnings, new growth. Arousal of desire. A love affair or new birth. The prospering of an enterprise or venture. Berkano Reversed or Merkstave: Family problems and or domestic troubles. Anxiety about someone close to you. Carelessness, abandon, loss of control. Blurring of consciousness, deceit, sterility, stagnation.

——————————————————-

Given the above, when we come to Silent Hill 3, through camhacks and whatnot and good attention to details, we have Fukuro Lady/nurse. Some say she is Lisa Garland reincarnated or something. Fukuro is japanese for plastic bag and Owl.
---------------------
Notable are Lisa's shoes, they are red, so when we see Fukuro Lady, they are teal/greenish, when you invert red you get a teal/cyan/blue/green type colour. "Otherworldy" colour-shift.

Death Upon The Head Of Sinners

Death Upon The Head Of Sinners

We may visit death upon the head
of the sinner but to what avail?

In the name of retribution,
we took part in a bitter
comedy this day.

You, hanging as you do,
by your neck,
Unforgiven and cursed by all.

Five of them committed crimes,
six went out for a drink and
were captured there.

Only one of them was innocent,
but they knew not that.

The bloodstains remaining
are proof of their guilt.
Trodden upon and thus created,
they are paths to
Hell or the Void.

The white bandages stained
with crimson,
The remains upon the scorched
black earth,
The whispered cries of
the maiden.
They are but meaningless
contract.

They are also signs of guilt.

But one of them was
done without reason.
It was done out of fear
and a ripe imagination.

Sinning alone at the
end of a rope,
it is nothing less than
a disgrace to us all.

"Monsters and screaming and blood and the running and the huge gaping holes of fire and rusty steel grating."

Silent Hill

Silent Hill

Silent Hill has enough dark secrets for 20 small towns. : killing of Native Americans in an inquisition, witch burning, plague, torture, secret prisons, child abuse, rape, drug dealing, demons, ghosts, kidnapping, orphans, child sacrifices, cults, tons of murders, serial killers, multiple conspiracies, animal abuse, two evil parallel dimensions, and at least three dark gods - one of which supposedly used to be nice before all of the above drove it nuts.
